Does Apple really need Jobs?
The front page of (almost) everything in the world has been splattered with the news about Steve Job's resignation. FJ Bliss delivered the news to me ... I felt like a child who was told that "Daddy is the tooth fairy".
A more detailed rendition of the feelings surging through this Apple fanatic is portrayed by this video:
... but then, if you actually take the time to read all the editorials, you start to form a rational opinion of your own ...
You start to think, was the clout to the Apple stock price misplaced? Is Apple suffering from a conjoined brand with its (former) CEO like Virgin suffers with Richard Branson?
The general sentiment is no, Apple is a sustainable engine of awesome.
Before transforming Apple, Steve Jobs was transformed by Apple. Steve's leadership was focused not only on creating great products, but getting everyone else to create great products too (source). In this sense, Steve embedded his DNA into the culture at Apple; in Tim Cook's own words to Apple's employee's:
What does this all mean? Well it means that Apple now faces a paradoxical challenge: to transition into this change without changing its promise to customers - bloody amazing products!
... with that said, it seems like Jobs is going to be at arms length - directing Apple's product strategy (source).

Farewell, Steve Jobs!
Steve Jobs, Thank you!!
via NewYork Post
"I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee," he continued.
"I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you," Jobs said in the letter.
Jobs was named CEO of the decade by Forbes magazine in 2009.
"Steve Jobs will always stay at Apple like Bill Gates will always stay at Microsoft, even after his retirement." ~ Quoted

Pie Charts
This is the most accuracy pie chart that I have ever seen ...
A story on marketing management
Often you will hear that you can't manage what you cannot measure.
Sometimes, and probably more importantly, people will tell you to set objectives which those measurements will gauge.
Even less of the time, and most importantly, is to identify problems that your objectives will solve; thereby creating value.
Otherwise, you end up with pretty charts that mean very little to very few people.
So using the analogy of the pie starting from the bottom of our list:
The problem is that I am hungry [the problem] and want to be full [the goal] , and in order to be full I must eat a complete pie [the measure] , and to eat a complete pie I must make sure no one else gets a slice of it [managing] !

The Last Woman on Earth - will be Brazilian
The Economist (source) put up an interesting concept for a chart: based on projections of fertility rates, the last race on earth is going to be Brazillian unless fertility rates rise in other areas.
~ come on people, we need to get Kuwait on this chart, get to work!
PS: The Economist ran a few articles this week on cultural and behavioural changes towards marriage in Asia - very interesting read.

Hey! That's my chair ...
Source: icanhascheezburger.com
Ever walked into the restaurant or cafe you regularly visit and find someone sitting in the place you usually sit in? ... and then that irksome feeling sets it
... "someone's sitting in my chair"
Ever notice how a group of people walk into a cafe or restaurant when you're just about to finish your meal or coffee, they have a seat at a table near by and send devious looks your way ... you begin to feel irritated, ask for the bill, pay.
As soon as your bum leaves the chair the vultures rush the table you left.
You were sitting at their table.
HBR's Daily Stat gives some insight on this feeling of entitlement in public places:
In a study by Marco Costa, of the University of Bologna, 66% of students observed in lecture halls over a six-week period chose the same seat, or an adjacent one, every time.
Costa says the study, titled “Territorial Behavior in Public Settings,” suggests that restaurants and hotels could boost satisfaction by giving repeat customers the same table or room on each visit and that companies could reduce worker anxiety by holding recurring meetings in the same conference room.
If you've even been to The Baking Tray cafe you'll see this phenomenon in action ... there is only one table with cushions - fluffy seats make happy customer bums - and everyone wants to sit on it. Others will want to sit in the only corner that has a degree of privacy provided by the building's support pillar.
This isn't limited to the food industry. An example from a local gym experience: In 2010 I purchased a 1 year subscription with a locker - number 10. I renewed my subscription in 2011 and did not buy a locker key - instead I used whatever locker was available. The receptionist, however, made sure I got locker number 10 every day ... Guess what? Locker number 10 feels special - epic customer service win.
So for your next visit to your favourite hangout, watch yourself. Are you sitting in your usual seat? ... does the food taste better? You're exhibiting Territorial Behavior in Public Settings.

Dying - 70 Seconds
3baid linked this video entitled "In The Fall" on Vimeo ~ an ironic take on the demise of an average joe and life flashing him by ~
What would your life look like? What were your best moments ... I can think of a few of my own:
My Flashback
- When I was born, my mother gave her Rolex to the nurse ... I bet that was the nurse's retirement package.
- At the age of 3 I was dropped by my sister ... this explains my bubble butt: adaptive evolution and natural selection.
- At 6 I discovered I did not want to be a cannibal when I nearly bit my cousin's finger off.
- At 9 I caught my first pokemon and realised that they weren't edible
- I became a professional drummer at 12, but no body was hiring ...
- When I was 15 I was too young to go to college, until I actually became a college kid at 16 and realised all I had to do was party to pass
- At 18 I started working thinking I wanted a career, now I realise all I wanted was a pay check
- Between 21 and now life's like a foreign film with no subtitles ~
Now for a bit of geekism ~
Geekism
The bloke starts falling at 00:23 and the clip ends his fall at 01:33. That's exactly 70 seconds. We can now figure out how far the chap travelled if we use the following equation for curvilinear motion:
x(t) = x(0) + V(0) * t + 1/2*a*t^2
- x(t) is the distance covered at time t
- x(0) is the initial distance/location (usually 0)
- v(0) is initial velocity (0 if dropped from a height and not thrown down)
- a is acceleration (in a vaccum this is 9.8m/sec^2 on earth)
This translates to:
Distance = 0+0*70+((1/2)(9.8)(70^2))
This means that out friend dropped 24.01 kilometres ...
What would you think about for 24 kilometres?! x']

LinkedIn's Mobile App
For many young professionals, it’s hard to imagine why you’d want to use a business social-networking site like LinkedIn on the go. It just doesn’t have the ubiquity of a Facebook or the hipness of an Instagram. (which I both use... lol)
I love the new application, it's very easy to use. It presents you with a quick glance at relevant news for your industry, as well as a snapshot of personal and professional updates from your contacts. It makes staying up-to-date on your business life a painless, quick and we daresay even fun process.
And according to LinkedIn mobile product chief Joff Redfern, it’s exactly what LinkedIn users want and are going to love.
The mobile apps are optimized to allow users to grow their network and stay connected. In the new interface invitations are a one-click process. The LinkedIn app also gives Groups a large role.

Cheaterville: Don't be the last to know
Q8Rain.com featured a hilarious post about Cheaterville.com; a website that takes the reality TV show, Cheaters to the forefronts of social media! This is a website that makes repenting, remorse, and regret a far fetched fantasy >.<' Just think about the possibilities if:
- Your significant other is on the website
- You find yourself on the website!
- You find your parents on the website >.<'
- You find your cat on the website (queue X-Files music)
Word of warning, if you haven't done this already, the search feature records the number of times a person has been searched >.<' So yes, I am already listed #fml. The website should come into the region, and integrate with Khitba.com! It will be a credit check type of service #patentThis
Well, in all fairness, everyone makes mistakes, and it's good to remember your mistakes! What a brilliant way for friends to remind you of all the oops's and ack's you've made in the past ~ can you think of people you'd list?

Abercrombie & Fitch Paid Jersey Shore NOT to Wear Their Clothes..
Proving that there is such a thing as bad publicity (and clearly doing their best to avoid the Ed Hardy Effect), the prepster chain has proposed something of an unendorsement deal to the cast of Jersey Shore: "a substantial payment" in exchange for not wearing their clothes in public.
