A story on marketing management
Often you will hear that you can't manage what you cannot measure.
Sometimes, and probably more importantly, people will tell you to set objectives which those measurements will gauge.
Even less of the time, and most importantly, is to identify problems that your objectives will solve; thereby creating value.
Otherwise, you end up with pretty charts that mean very little to very few people.
So using the analogy of the pie starting from the bottom of our list:
The problem is that I am hungry [the problem] and want to be full [the goal] , and in order to be full I must eat a complete pie [the measure] , and to eat a complete pie I must make sure no one else gets a slice of it [managing] !
