How about those waiters?

There are two types of waiters: Good waiters and Bad waiters. Good waiters also have two types:
Type A- Those are the best type. Unfortunately they are hard to find; statistically speaking they're about 5% only. Waiters who fall under this category are so rare because they actually care. And because they care they will listen, and get you exactly what you ordered with nothing missing. What makes them so awesome is the fact that they're not too annoyingly nice. They won't come to your table every 5 seconds to ask you about the food, or the service, or if there was anything else you need. And when you ask them about something they would immediately know the answer; "What's your best appetizer? "umm, uhh everything is good here MAAM" is not a good enough answer. So, for that type A are great but extremely hard to find.
Type B- Here the waiters are good listeners and they do get the right order, however they are either slow or annoying. When they are too slow, I sometimes blame the kitchen but it's not always the kitchen's fault. Sometimes the waiters get too busy or lazy to deliver the order as soon as they get it. If the place is so packed, I understand why my order takes a while, but if the place is kinda empty why does it take forever? As for being annoying, which is the worst for me, I don't understand it. I really don't. Some waiters tend to be so blaaaaah, you would speak to them and immediately know that they're dozing off somewhere in la-la land or something. Or if you have to repeat your order 3 times just so they can get it right. Or even worse, if they say ok MAAM sure, but when they repeat your order it's all wrong! Seriously, what is wrong with you? This type is the most common, sadly!
Moving on to the bad waiters; bad listeners, annoying, rude, always have a pissed off look on their faces, and to make matters worse they get everything but what you ordered. Let's say you ask for a sandwich with no tomatoes, no onions, no lettuce, and no pickles, with a diet coke on the side with extra ice. You sit there wait for your order, and then guess what? You get your sandwich with EVERYTHING inside it, and your diet coke, who knows if its really diet, with NO ice. And this is exactly why they're called BAD waiters.

By the way, the categories above do not include all the coffee shop places because you don't wanna get me started on Starbucks. They are by far the most annoying. Everything has to be with EXTRA CARAMEL, who the hell drinks coffee with 8 extra shots of caramel? Unless you wanna fall into a sugar coma feel free to do so. Then they ask you if you want CREAM with that, you say No, then they ask you again about the Caramel. And then they ask you if you would like something to eat, they talk about their new items and how you must eat anything. If you insist on the No, they move on to the worst question ever; "Would you like to have a bottle of water, MAAAM?" I'm having coffee, why would I wanna have a bottle of water also? And don't you think if I wanted a bottle of water I would remember to order it? Starbucks really need to change their strategies, they're starting to lose me and I'm a daily customer.

Moving on to bigger issues.
A friend of mine, RX, is complaining about the service of a certain restaurant, The Baking Tray, and he is one of their very loyal customers. He is saying that they are too slow, and it took them ages to prepare a salad for him or something. Now, if anyone knows the owner let him know about this issue. Since, I'm a big fan of the Baking Tray I wouldn't want it to be devalued just because of their slow service. I also noticed that although the waiters are nice there, but because the place has both indoors and outdoors, it takes them a while to get out and take the orders.
Other restaurants have similar problems; slow waiters, but slow in the head. Today I went to 86 Bistro, and I have to say the food was amazing but the service was weird. Our waitress was half asleep, or she looked like it. It took her a while to understand what we were saying, and then she forgot something then wrote it again. And what was really funny is when we asked her about a dish they served she just repeated the name, that was her idea of an explanation.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure all of you have experienced those issues with waiters/waitresses in and out of Kuwait, so you know what I mean. Also, I'd like to add that I do appreciate waiters, their jobs aren't all easy they have to deal with all sort of people on a daily basis, and people can be so rude at times. Nevertheless, I am going to blame the management for their shortcomings since they are responsible for hiring and recruiting their employees.

P.S
RX this post is dedicated to you, since you inspired it.

  4. Latoops: True fact, drinking 1 glass of water before and after coffee or tea will prevent tooth staining.

  5. Fj I hate it lama inafsoooon! They're suppose to be NICE, it's probably rule number 1 in the waiter's handbook!

RX Thanks! Now about that payment... :p

Latoops: LOL I do that too, everything they say I automatically say NO, NO,NO till they finally shut up. And maybe ur right about the water, but I think they only do that to sell which is why I find it annoying. Ghaseb yabon ybe3oon keleshay in one day. Thank you for the baking tray part, and also tell him that all of us here in 42 are in a serious committed loving relationship with The Baking Tray ;p

  6. what a coincidence - last night i was watching a movie where the main character was a waiter, 2 nice things they said in that movie:

    1. waiters are servers, not servants
    2. sun flowers bow to the sun, but if they bow too low, they're dead. This was a metaphor the manager used to tell the waiter how to balance being "too nice" and not losing dignity when serving customers ... or something like that i dunno but i liked the sun flower metaphor :P

  7. FD Bliss is the best writer! when it comes to writing she's truly a talent. No offense to the other writers in this blog but she's the best! FJ Bliss, on the other hand, is amazing when it comes to being creative and random, no need to say especially when it comes to food! she just puts the pictures up there and it says it all - no need to write anymore .. and her songs .. im in awe .. the best taste in music ever ;)

  11. What I miss the most about male waiters from back home is their "hotness"! You don't see any lookers here in Kuwait but the service is excellent in most cases! And most American men get the best treatment from waitresses in Kuwait. I wonder why? loooooooooool.
